About Mary
Mary Tamura (or Mary Majikku on social media) is a Japanese American writer, social media expert, and proud native angeleno. She’s a Scorpio, Slytherin, and when not writing, one can find her at Disneyland. Mary is a connoisseur of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror genres and wants to bring more diversity to Hollywood. She has a degree in TV/Film from California State University, Northridge and holds three certificates from UCLA Extension in Television Writing, TV and Film Development, and Digital Marketing.
Her day job is creating a unique and engaging social presence for TV shows like DC Super Hero Girls, House of the Dragon/Game of Thrones, and brands like DC Comics, WB Pictures, and Warner Bros TV. At night, she writes and creates world’s unexplored where sometimes the fantastical and scary mirror the real world. Mary has a talent for writing Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror. Her writing has placed in script competitions such as: Ermantourage, Emerging Screenwriters Sci-Fi & Fantasy Screenplay Competition, The Southern California Screenplay Competition, the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards, and ISA. Her journey in Hollywood has also been featured in ShoutoutLA and VoyageLA.
An advocate for diversity and empowerment for AAPI in media, Mary has previously been on the board of Warner Bros’ NAPA (now known as ARC) and strives for more diverse voices on and off the screen. She believes that her writing and her stories, which are inspired from her family background, can help change the preconceived perceptions of what the world thinks of the AAPI community.
With work experiences with new media companies like Philip Defranco, AwesomenessTV, and BlackBoxTV and Entertainment Studios like Warner Bros and marketing agencies like Digital Media Management, Mary’s background gives her the experience to be highly intouch with the demographic that many studios are looking to cater to when developing TV.
In the future, she hopes to go into development and produce her script, Yokai. She hopes her story can help inspire the AAPI community to keep creating and telling their stories, because they need to be told.
